Nodejs on Ubuntu with the awesome "/usr/bin/env:node: No Such file or directory"

Just when you are finished installing nodejs in your fresh shiny Ubuntu box and issue your first cordova create app command you get this annoying /usr/bin/env:node: No Such file or directory Which looks like this And you think what went wrong. Apparently this stupid error is because you decided to do sudo apt-get install nodejs In short Ubuntu's default code repository renames node as nodejs to avoid some weird conflict. And you just got caught in between. Fortunately a one line symlink is enough to fix it for us. So just issue the following and you rare good to go sudo ln -s /usr/bin/nodejs /usr/bin/node

The curious case of MTA Fare and birth of "MTABonus"

Finally yesterday my 11th Firefox OS App got published in the marketplace. With a salt of surprise as well. Instead of taking weeks to get approved it took only a day to get approved. But then again I am not complaining, I get lucky like this time to times (but why didn't I get this lucky for the DVLUP submission.....but that's a story for some other day) and quite a lot of time hit roadblocks too. So without further ado this is finally how the "App" managed to look like History : When I arrived New York almost three months back apart from the amazing city what amazed and delighted me was the transportation. Unlike most cities in United States New York City  (there is a reason for that italics) has a very comprehensive and functional Public Transport system. And one that people use extensively. The famous NYC Metro and the Buses are run by the Metro Transport Authority. The idea is you buy a "MetroCard" and refill it (or have unlimited...

VMware in Linux : The virtual machine's operating system has attempted to enable promiscuous mode on adapter Ethernet0

I was just happy when I transported my dev virtual box to my Linux system. But immediately after starting up the system I was greeted with this error The virtual machine's operating system has attempted to enable promiscuous mode on adapter Ethernet0. This is not allowed for security reasons. Apparently the solution is this . Which states that "VMware software does not allow the virtual Ethernet adapter to go into promiscuous mode unless the user running the VMware software has permission to make that setting. This follows the standard Linux practice that only root can put a network interface into promiscuous mode." And the solution it seems is adding a new user group and deligating permission to them. However for CentOS this didn't turn out to be the case. Apparently device nodes are created in boottime in this case and you need ownership permissions for udev to make it work. You can read a detailed description in that link. But in short the commands w...

Git on Windows: The unknown Perils

Today when I was finally setting up a few things in my work laptop and tried to work with a few codes I pushed to my git repository I faced a new error again. What I wanted to do. Just a simple git cli call to add a repository to my local phonegap build. And I ended up with Interesting. Very interesting. As it turns out it is a platform specific bug in Windows with Git. Never noticed it before because I never used windows very much for my dirty development works. Apparently { [Error: Command failed: fatal: could not create work tree dir 'C:\Users\RXK132 ~1\AppData\Local\Temp\plugman\git\1404826931375'.: No such file or directory ] killed: false, code: 128, signal: null }    [error] Command failed: fatal: could not create work tree dir 'C:\Users\RXK13 2~1\AppData\Local\Temp\plugman\git\1404826931375'.: No such file or directory Is produced as windows is unable to create the directory structure. If you manually create the...

Increasing Virtualbox disk size (Increasing VHD size without cloning)

Lets just face it, I like VirtualBox. I have used it in numerous occasions, back from the days when it was offered by Innotek, to Sun and now Oracle. Yeah it always was a less powerful than Vmware in some areas, but when i don't need them this was as good (or maybe sometimes better) than Vmware for my basic sandboxing needs! But sometimes I find myself in a problem which the GUI isn't always helpful for me. One of them is when in an active Virtual Machine I run out of diskspace. There are a number of ways to increase harddisk size without destroying your data, but most of them involve cloning or copying your data to a new vdi. Though they are also relatively painless I found a much more easier solution. Or rather a one liner The following command will operate on the VirtualBox virtual disk located at “C:\Users\rk\VirtualBox VMs\Windows 7\Windows 7.vdi”. It will resize the virtual disk to 21920 MB (20 GB). VBoxManage modifyhd “C:\Users\rk\VirtualBox VMs\Windows 7\Wi...
