RK's Rambling

Just when I thought everything was alright…I got “In order to continue the installation, please close the following application: iTunes” and it was showing after it completed almost 97% of the installation. Yes….I was trying to install Xcode 4.1 into the Snow Leopard… Developing app for MAC is something I always wanted to do,and now when I was just going to utilize my Apple Developer membership this stupid error cropped it's head. I checked the dock bar, and iTunes wasn’t running at all. I also have an app called QuitsAppsMBI which is a handy tool for quitting applications, nothing on there to say iTunes was running. Lastly, I checked Force Quit to see if there was anything, and there was nothing in there at all. Not wanting to potentially ruin the installation, I wasn’t sure I wanted to just kill the Installer, so I seeked the help of Google to see if there were any suggestions on what to do. I came across the following post on James Greenhalgh’s blog:  http://j...

Finally the videos are getting uploaded one by one. And I thought this is the time I start sharing them. So this here I'll list all the lectures I liked from the It-NIketan first summit. The first one starts with Rajiv Vaishnav delivering the keynote Then it was our turn. It's now Bivas,Me and Sagnik Then came Shubhashish Ganguly , Senior Director, North America Cognizant. I still haven't got the reamining Videos. Will upload them Once I get them.

First a little disclaimer: I know I am quite late to write this post, already a week has past since the BIG day. But still it is better late than never, Right? Now what was IT-Niketan? It all started from a Facebook group. One day a few persons were discussing what if we had a common platform where all the developers, designers and testers of kolkata could meet and discuss things. And as facebook discussions go, this went for sometimes then just faded. But from that discussion one person took notice. Aninda da liked the idea, he took it to a much greater platform. The NASSCOM. He was with the nasscom so he placed the idea there and it was approved. And thus the inception of  IT Niketan .   It was scheduled to take place in the DPSC Auditorium in saltlake and when I reached there it was already in full gear, just about to start. First we had a little introduction and keynotes session by Mr. Suparno Moitra (Regional Manager East NASSCOM) and Mr. Rajiv Vaishnav (Vice Pre...

Have you tried sleeping with your eyes open? Absurd, you’ll say. Crazy, you’ll exclaim. Now, if you’re forced to spend days sleeping with your eyes open, how will you feel? And how will it affect your entire system? You probably don’t have an accurate answer. That’s because you didn’t have to experience any such thing. But this is what young Arti Shrivastav, went through in those agonizing days 10 years back, when she was undergoing treatment in a Kanpur hospital after being devastated by an acid attack. Why ? Because she repeatedly refused the advances of her classmate who claimed he loves her. Let’s reflect what exactly happened on that cursed January afternoon. 24th Jan, 2000, a young girl was returning home from tuitions in Kanpur. Her father, Pratap Saran Shrivastav, a professor at DAV College at that time, was escorting Arti back. The usual travel plan of Arti’s returning alone was changed a little, as her college mate, Abhinav Mishra, was creating a ruckus those days, pursuing ...

APRIL FOOL!!! Yes that is the spirit of the day. Everybody tries to fool you today (and you try likewise). My day too started with my mother fooling me :( And then of course I got into action :) After a few pranks I logged onto the net too see what Google had in store for us, like it every year had on April Fool's day. And i was not disappointed. Gmail had a new revolutionary product for us. Gmail Motion!! See the video here: Gmail product manager Paul McDonald, in a deadpan explanatory video, said Gmail Motion uses a "language of movements that replaces type entirely" and ends reliance on "outdated technologies" like the keyboard and mouse. Of course let me clarify. If you don't already know...YEAH this is the Google way to april fool us. :D Just the prank I was waiting for. If you still haven't seen it go here But though this was the hugely popular and shared link of Google's April fool. I googled a bit and found a few more simil...

Well this is my continuation to the post here As I promised this is my second post as India finally won the match. And talking about match..what a match it was. Just before I delve into that precious glorious excitement that "kick" of yesterday let me narrate from a little blog on yahoo. The title was "It is just another game". There in his phrase. It's just another game. No, seriously. It is.Yes, there is a World Cup final berth at stake -- but two teams played yesterday for the same stakes, with no one pretending that the fate of the world hung in the balance (in fact, television channels were banging on about today's game while yesterday's was see-sawing through its course).Today, two other teams are playing for the second berth -- and that is all they are doing. But...oh well..It was not just another match . India-Pakistan can never be just another match. And the impact they have in the people of both countries..well UNBELIEVABLE . Firs...
