Firefox Add ons

How to make Firefox addons compatible with the newest release. Everybody likes to try out the newest version of Firefox. At the time I was writing this Firefox 3.1 beta 1 was available. When you install it you will find some of your existing Firefox add-ons may have already been updated to work with the new version. Others won’t install at all. Don’t be surprised if some of the add-ons you modify to be compatible, bring Firefox to its knees. They don’t let you install older versions for a reason. But so I’ve had no problems at all. Step 1 – Downloading the add-on Locate the add-on you want to install. If it’s on the official Firefox add-on page you’ll have to click “See All version” to be allowed access to the .xpi. Right click on the now clickable “Add to Firefox” button and choose save target file as. Step 2 – Extracting the add-on. Locate the add-on you just saved. You should be able to open the .xpi file with your favorite compression utility. I use Power Archiver and it seemed to ...
My time in home is almost up for my this trip. And everytime I leave this town, the same emotions swell inside me. The same story unfolds itself....everytime. Wonder when I'll be out of this µ-ish trance....anyway. Changed the layout of this blog yesterday. And I'm thinking whether to keep rolling in this blogger post or whether to shift up to my own wordpress. Everything has its advantages and disadvantages. Anyway will figure it out later. And maybe i'll create a different and more formal blog for my technical posts. I think i'd like to keep my technical part and my sluggish lazy part apart :) Maybe this will later turn out to be informal public diary :D Who knows. Anyway have to get up now. Maybe will post again at night. HAve lot to do now. And a technical article is also due to be posted.

Google Audio Indexing

GAudi is short for Google Audio Indexin g, and it’s the latest experiment to be added to the Google Labs . This service lets you do a text search for spoken words in videos of YouTube’s US politicians channels. The functionality was previously already available as part of an iGoogle gadget . Will Google ever manage to apply this technology to all YouTube videos – and perhaps even videos not contained on YouTube, but available from other video upload platforms? Google in their FAQ write that the aim of GAudi “on Google Labs is broader and the US election is just a first step. We see it as an experiment platform where we can learn what features make the best user experience for people looking for spoken content on the Web.”
As “the father of the Internet”, Vint Cerf is a man who needs to be listened to, especially when he is talking about the Internet itself. So when he warns that the Internet is almost full, meaning the available IP addresses are rapidly running out, I think we all need to start taking action. Cerf, now aged 65 and an Internet evangelist, was one of the men who worked on ARPAnet, the predecessor to the Internet, and so is rightly regarded as one of the founding fathers of the Internet. According to The Guardian, he has recently warned that the Internet is rapidly running out of IP addresses, with late 2009, early 2010 a possible time-scale for when all the IP addresses in the world will have been used. The problem has been exacerbated by the fact that it’s not only computers that are now able to connect to the Internet, with mobile phones, PDAs, game consoles, televisions, and even fridges all being sold with some kind of Internet access built in. This means that the Internet Protocol ve...

How to Stop the Noise While Copying Audio CD

Whenever I try to burn an audio cd using Nero, my cd writer makes a lot of noise. Observing the process carefully for some time revealed that noise is generated only at the end of each track. Anyways, I tried to find a a fix for this, and here’s the step by step solution to the problem- Step 1 . Go to System Properties>Device Manager and select IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Step 2 . Double click on the CD writer IDE channel and select advance setting. Step 3 . In the advanced settings dialog, change the transfer mode to ‘PIO Only’. Step 4 . Restart the computer. That’s it. No more irritating noise now. Enjoy!

Google chrome and Yoga

Now this is I recently came across with. Its quite interesting :) Do tell me what you think of this. Seems like Google chrome’s popularity has disturbed the samadhi of Baba Ramdev or is it a brainchild of his marketing team… ;) Comment are welcome on this innovative marketing style of the Yoga guru.
